A resolution to alter the initiative petition process was passed this week by the Senate after a weeks-long stalemate. SJR 74, sponsored by Sen. Mary Elizabeth Coleman (R-Arnold), would modify how many votes a proposed constitutional amendment would need to pass.

In the midst of legislative challenges, the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry governmental affairs team has been actively pushing forward key priorities. Kara Corches, vice president of governmental affairs for the Missouri Chamber, emphasized the importance of collaboration among lawmakers for the state's advancement. She stated, “We encourage lawmakers to come together for the betterment of our state.”

Corches highlighted the progress made on crucial legislative priorities, including child care tax credits and measures to combat crime. She expressed gratitude towards legislators supporting these initiatives, stating, “We appreciate the business champions in the legislature who are committed to making Missouri an even better place to live and work.”

The Missouri Chamber continues to advocate for various issues affecting the business community, such as supporting safe and affordable child care options, legal reform, addressing the state's crime rate, defending against government overreach, and clarifying worker’s compensation laws.
