Today, during a Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) committee hearing, U.S. Senator Josh Hawley questioned Linda McMahon, the nominee by President Donald Trump to lead the Department of Education. The discussion focused on ensuring safety for women on college campuses and addressing campus antisemitism.

Senator Hawley raised concerns about Title IX protections for female students in athletics and facilities like locker rooms and dormitories. He referenced President Trump’s recent executive order aimed at safeguarding women's sports and spaces, while noting that some universities have indicated they will not comply with it. “What can be done to ensure that these colleges comply with the law, and that women are safe on campus, and that women are able to play sports without men interfering?” Senator Hawley asked. McMahon promised to investigate and cut funding to non-compliant universities.

The issue of rising antisemitism on college campuses since the October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel was also addressed by Senator Hawley. He emphasized that many Jewish-American students face hostility despite their universities receiving federal funds. The Senator sought McMahon’s commitment to “enforce the law […] to the hilt,” ensuring Jewish Americans' safety on campuses and cutting off federal funds to institutions where crimes against Jewish students occur. McMahon agreed.

Additionally, Senator Hawley secured assurances from McMahon that she would work towards revoking visas and deporting campus radicals who threaten other students or engage in illegal activities such as trespassing or vandalizing property.
