Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has released statements following a phone call with Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe. According to Hawley, Rowe personally contacted him to dispute a whistleblower allegation but refused to provide a written response.
"I just had an extraordinary conversation with Director Rowe at the Secret Service, who called me personally to dispute a whistleblower allegation—but refuses to respond in writing. Just as he has declined to respond substantively to ANY of the whistleblowers’ allegations," stated Hawley.
Hawley noted that Rowe expressed frustration over whistleblowers and requests for information based on their reports. "I informed him it is his JOB to provide the facts to the public & Congress. Stonewalling must stop. And I reminded him whistleblowers are *protected under federal law.*"
The senator emphasized his concern about the lack of cooperation from the agency with congressional investigators, which led the Homeland Security Committee to adopt legislation compelling cooperation from both the Secret Service and DHS.
"The Interim Report today from the Homeland Security Committee details multiple leadership failures at USSS – including evidence that Rowe gave misleading testimony to Congress in July. There must be accountability," added Hawley.
This conversation follows Hawley's recent disclosure of another whistleblower allegation regarding the Secret Service's refusal to provide former President Donald Trump with necessary resources for a rally in Wisconsin, resulting in its cancellation.
Additionally, today saw unanimous passage by the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) of Senator Hawley's legislation requiring DHS and the Secret Service to submit all relevant information pertaining to assassination attempts against former President Trump on July 13 and September 15.
