Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has responded to criticism from Missouri State Senate President Pro Tempore Cindy O’Laughlin, who had described his concerns over rising utility costs in the state as “misleading.” In a statement, Hawley said O’Laughlin “told me to stop asking questions about data centers and higher electricity rates. Not a chance.”
The exchange follows Hawley’s recent letter to Martin Lyons, President and CEO of Ameren Corporation. In the letter, Hawley criticized Ameren for allegedly pursuing costly corporate projects while many Missourians face increased utility bills and power shut-offs. He also requested details on Ameren’s communications regarding rate increases, power disconnections, expansion of data centers, as well as how costs are allocated and prioritized.
Ameren is one of Missouri’s major utility providers.
