The Saint Louis University Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Class of 2028 marked a significant milestone by holding a white coat ceremony, signaling the students' entry into the professional phase of their program. The event was held at Saint Francis Xavier College Church during the university’s Homecoming and Family Weekend.
More than 80 students participated in the ceremony, where they received their white coats from members of the DPT Class of 2026, who are in their final year of the program. The ceremony featured an address by Melissa Pool, a student from the DPT Class of 2026, who also helped present the white coats.
Pool said, "It was an honor to address the DPT Class of 2028 and to help them recognize their accomplishments." She also highlighted the importance of having alumnus Ryan Wood, DPT, speak to the class about his advocacy work with the non-profit arm of his private practice at Forefront Therapy in Evansville, Indiana.
During the event, the Florence Kendall Service Award was presented to Ryan Wood, recognizing his contributions to the field.
Chris Sebelski, Ph.D., DPT, chair of the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training, said, "The ceremony is not only intended as a celebration of student accomplishments, but also as a meaningful and symbolic event."
