U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt's (R-MO) resolution honoring the B-2 pilots and all servicemembers involved in Operation Midnight Hammer has passed the U.S. Senate with unanimous consent. The resolution recognizes the contributions of Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri to the mission.
Senator Schmitt visited Whiteman Air Force Base during the August State work period. He stated, "Operation Midnight Hammer is a testament to the competence and bravery of the Air Force personnel at Whiteman Air Force Base and a clear demonstration of the lethality and unparalleled war-fighting capabilities of our military. The precision strikes decimated Iranian nuclear facilities and played a key role achieving a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. The brave men and women involved in this operation are heroes, and I am proud to see my resolution honoring their service and success pass the Senate."
The resolution was co-sponsored by Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Katie Britt (R-AL), Ted Budd (R-NC), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), David McCormick (R-PA), James Risch (R-ID), Rick Scott (R-FL), Tim Sheehy (R-MT), and Dan Sullivan (R-AK).
On June 21, 2025, seven B-2 Spirit stealth bombers departed from Whiteman Air Force Base for a 37-hour nonstop mission to strike Iran's Fordow and Natanz nuclear facilities with Massive Ordnance Penetrator bombs. In coordination with these airstrikes, a U.S. submarine launched over two dozen Tomahawk land attack missiles at Isfahan, another significant Iranian nuclear site.
