St. Louis is gearing up for the annual 314 Day, a week-long celebration that highlights the unique aspects of the city. The event, which takes its name from St. Louis' original area code, brings together makers, musicians, artists, businesses, organizations, attractions, and neighborhoods to showcase what makes the metro area special.
The celebration invites participation from everyone in the region regardless of their area code. "Whether your area code is 314, 636, 618, or 573," said a spokesperson for Greater St. Louis, Inc., "you're part of 314 Day." The event has been successful in generating civic pride and enhancing St. Louis' reputation with last year's hashtag use more than doubling.
Greater St. Louis, Inc., along with the 314 Day Foundation, encourages community involvement in this year's festivities starting on March 8th and concluding on March 14th. They see it as an opportunity for local businesses to engage with employees and customers while celebrating the city's culture.
Businesses are encouraged to add their events or special deals to the official calendar leading up to 314 Day. Additionally, they can promote their connection to St. Louis through social media using #314Day and #STLMade hashtags.
The history of this celebration dates back to its creation in 2006 by Terrell “Dip” Evans and Tatum Polk who aimed to unite St. Louis residents in acknowledging positive developments within the city.
