The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has launched new radio and video advertisements in Missouri. These ads are part of an ongoing campaign urging Congress to prevent a significant tax increase on small businesses by passing the Main Street Tax Certainty Act, which aims to make the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent.
NFIB President Brad Close emphasized the importance of small businesses, stating, "Small businesses are the foundation of our economy, yet more than 30 million of them are about to face a massive tax hike that would hurt their ability to create jobs and give back to their communities." He urged Congress to act swiftly, saying, "Congress must pass the Main Street Tax Certainty Act now to level the playing field and help small businesses compete."
Brad Jones, NFIB State Director for Missouri, echoed these concerns. "Missouri small business owners can’t afford this massive tax hike," he said. Jones highlighted how the deduction has benefited local businesses: "The 20% Small Business Deduction has allowed our job creators to expand their operations, raise wages, and boost employees’ benefits. This is the most significant portion of the 2017 tax law, and we need Congress to make it permanent."
The 20% Small Business Deduction was introduced as part of the 2017 tax legislation with the intent of balancing competition between small enterprises and larger corporations. It has been instrumental in helping small business owners navigate recent economic challenges but is set to expire at the end of 2025. The proposed Main Street Tax Certainty Act seeks to make this deduction permanent and prevent a substantial tax increase for many American small businesses.
