A St. Louis resident, David B. Crosby, has confessed to producing and selling fraudulent identification documents. On Tuesday, Crosby, aged 28, pleaded guilty to a single count of fraud involving identification documents.

Crosby admitted to selling both stolen and fake identification documents as well as a Social Security number. He used social media platforms to advertise these fraudulent items. The total loss caused or intended by his actions amounted to at least $103,000.

In October 2023, Crosby sold a fake Missouri driver's license that featured the name and details of one victim but displayed the photograph of another individual. Along with this license, he also sold the victim's Social Security number to the same buyer. According to Crosby's plea agreement, these documents were later used in an attempt to purchase a BMW valued at approximately $70,000 in Texas through a fraudulent loan.

Furthermore, Crosby created another false identification document using his photo but incorporating the identifying information of a different victim. He attempted to use this document for leasing an apartment and securing an automobile loan worth $33,000.

Crosby's sentencing is set for February 25, 2025. The charge could result in up to 15 years in prison and/or a fine not exceeding $250,000.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Secret Service alongside the St. Charles Police Department and the Wentzville Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Cort VanOstran is leading the prosecution.
