During a hearing of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee on antisemitism, U.S. Senator Josh Hawley criticized Democrats, alleging that they prioritize domestic terrorists over Jewish students' safety on college campuses. Senator Hawley remarked on American law, noting it allows the revocation of visas for individuals supporting terrorist activities.
Speaking to a witness during the hearing, Senator Hawley referenced the deportation of Mahmoud Khalil. "Lying on a visa application is not speech. Seeking to assault Columbia University employees and Jewish students is not speech," stated Senator Hawley. He accused the witness of defending someone who advocated for the destruction of the U.S., Israel, and Jewish people.
Expressing his viewpoint further, Senator Hawley added, “I want to say for the record, I’m glad [Mahmoud Khalil] is gone, and I hope he never comes back.” He mentioned Khalil's involvement with lawsuits filed by victims of the October 7th terrorist attack in Israel.
The Missouri senator has persistently advocated for removing individuals from college campuses who support terrorist groups and pose threats to Jewish students.
