The students of the School of Science and Engineering showcased their creativity in a pumpkin decorating contest. The event was held in the lobby of the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering building, where 16 decorated pumpkins were displayed for voting by the SLU community. A total of 500 votes were cast.

The competition concluded with the top three teams receiving cash prizes. Scott Sell, Ph.D., professor of biomedical engineering and associate dean for undergraduate education in SSE, announced the winners.

The winning entries were as follows: "First Place: Which Witch is Which?", "Second Place: Poltergeist", and "Third Place: Pumpken."

Ayden Wells, Julia Vitale, and Olivia King created "Which Witch is Which?" The design was inspired by the game Operation and incorporated elements from their majors in mechanical engineering and biomedical engineering.

Their pumpkin featured a Billiken with missing parts alongside an operation board. The creators provided a backstory involving a mishap on campus that led to the scattering of Billiken's parts. They invited viewers to reassemble him by starting with his heart, then his brain, kidney, funny bone, stomach, femur, shoe, ear, and hand.

With these components restored, they described how Billiken would be ready once again for high-fives around campus.
