Saint Louis University (SLU) has officially named its science and innovation hub the Sinquefield Science and Engineering Center. The dedication ceremony took place on March 18, 2025, with SLU President Fred P. Pestello, Ph.D., acknowledging the contributions of Jeanne and Rex Sinquefield.

In 2018, the Sinquefields donated $50 million to SLU, a historic gift aimed at enhancing the university's research capabilities. Shelia Manion, vice president for development, highlighted the impact of this donation on SLU’s growth in research and scholarship.

Provost Michael Lewis, Ph.D., emphasized how the donation has allowed SLU to attract and retain talented faculty members. "Jeanne and Rex, the gift you gave SLU in 2018 has transformed this institution," Lewis stated.

Ellen Barnidge, Ph.D., interim vice president for research at SLU, reported that researchers supported by the Sinquefields' gift have secured $30 million in external funding over three years. These researchers have also published numerous books and academic presentations.

Barnidge described the newly named building as more than just a physical space but a center that attracts those striving for scientific excellence. "A center like this one attracts people who strive for excellence," she said.

During the ceremony, President Pestello presented a photograph of the building with its new name to Jeanne and Rex Sinquefield. He expressed gratitude not only for their financial support but also for their personal contributions to both the university and community.

Jeanne Sinquefield celebrated SLU's recent achievement of receiving an "R1" designation from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. She attributed part of their donation's success to allowing faculty to determine worthwhile initiatives through programs like SLU’s Big Idea program.

Rex Sinquefield praised SLU’s progress since their donation and expressed excitement about future developments at the university.
