Denise Côté-Arsenault, Ph.D., a professor at Saint Louis University, has been awarded a Fulbright Specialist Program award. The U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board announced this recognition recently.
Côté-Arsenault is known for her expertise in pregnancy loss at Saint Louis University's Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing. She will collaborate with Ph.D. midwives in Poland on research related to parent experiences with pregnancy and birth involving life-limiting fetal diagnoses.
"I will share my expertise with them while also learning about their culture and experiences in Poland," she stated.
During her time in Poland, Côté-Arsenault plans to engage informally with Polish Parliament members to discuss perinatal palliative care and her U.S.-based research. Additionally, she will present "Perinatal Parenting and Grief in the Situation of a Baby’s Brief Life" at the National Conference: “Multifaceted Care of the Newborn and Infant," scheduled for September 20-21, 2024, at the Collegium Pharmaceuticum of the Medical University of Lublin.
Côté-Arsenault joins over 400 U.S. citizens annually who share their expertise internationally through the Fulbright Specialist Program. Awardees are selected based on their academic and professional achievements, leadership qualities, and potential to foster long-term institutional cooperation between the U.S. and other countries.
She has previously received honors such as the Midwest Nursing Research Society Qualitative Methods Research & Implementation Interest Group’s 2023 Distinguished Investigator Award and the 2019-2020 Fulbright Research Scholar award.
The Fulbright Program is an international educational exchange initiative sponsored by the U.S. government aimed at building lasting connections between people from different countries. It operates in over 160 countries worldwide, funded by an annual appropriation from Congress to the U.S. Department of State along with support from participating governments, host institutions, corporations, and foundations globally.
