The University of Missouri is preparing to host two significant events on April 2, 2025. The first event is part of the President's Distinguished Lecture Series, featuring Craig Piercy, CEO and executive director of the American Nuclear Society (ANS). Piercy will deliver a lecture titled "Are we good enough for nuclear?" at the Monsanto Auditorium in Columbia, Missouri. Piercy, known for leading a community of over 10,000 nuclear professionals, has made significant contributions to the ANS, including establishing new offices and a Rapid Response Task Force.

In 2024, Piercy was recognized as one of "Washington, D.C.'s 500 Most Influential People" by Washingtonian Magazine. His background includes significant experience in public affairs and government. The lecture, scheduled for 9:30 a.m., invites leaders from various research organizations and industries to engage with the Mizzou community.

Following this, a ribbon-cutting ceremony for an addition to the University of Missouri Research Reactor facility will take place at 11:30 a.m. The new facility, known as "MURR West," features a 47,000-square-foot extension to the current MURR North Building. The $20 million project aims to enhance research capabilities in nuclear science and radioisotopes by expanding workspace and collaboration opportunities.

Speakers at the ceremony include Matt Sanford, executive director of MURR, University President Mun Choi, former U.S. Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer, University of Missouri Board of Curators Chair Todd Graves, and former U.S. Senator Roy Blunt.

Media members interested in attending either or both events must register by March 31. Images and video footage of MURR are available upon request.
