U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has introduced the American Worker Rebate Act, a bill aimed at distributing rebate checks to working Americans. The proposal follows increased tariff revenue attributed to policies from former President Donald Trump.

“Americans deserve a tax rebate after four years of Biden policies that have devastated families’ savings and livelihoods. Like President Trump proposed, my legislation would allow hard-working Americans to benefit from the wealth that Trump’s tariffs are returning to this country,” Senator Hawley said.

The announcement comes after President Trump expressed support for such a policy during remarks on recent tariff revenue figures. According to data cited by Hawley, U.S. monthly tariff revenue approached $30 billion in June, with projections indicating that total revenue could surpass $150 billion in 2025.

Under the American Worker Rebate Act, eligible American workers and families would receive rebate checks modeled after the direct payments Congress approved in 2020. The legislation guarantees at least $600 per adult and dependent child, meaning a family of four would receive $2,400. If actual tariff revenues exceed current forecasts for 2025, the credit per person could be increased.
