A North Kansas City man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft. Aaron Randall Class, 53, faces one count in the indictment, which was returned under seal on August 12, 2025, and made public after his arrest.

The indictment alleges that on or about November 23, 2024, Class knowingly aimed a laser pointer beam at an aircraft within the jurisdiction of the United States.

"The charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence."

If convicted under federal statutes, Class could face up to five years in federal prison. The actual sentence will be determined by the court after considering advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled following a presentence investigation conducted by the United States Probation Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Trey Alford and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Branon Chlarson are prosecuting the case. The North Kansas City Police Department conducted the investigation.
