Haake Manufacturing Company, a long-standing sheet metal job shop in De Soto, Missouri, has voiced concerns regarding the implications of recent legislative changes. The company, known for its extensive operations in the Midwest for 77 years, emphasizes the challenges posed by Proposition A on its ability to grow and serve its clientele.

Proposition A, approved by Missouri voters last November, mandates businesses to provide paid sick leave and gradually raises the state's minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2026. Post-2026, the minimum wage will be indexed to inflation rates. "The reality is this: Across-the-board mandates like these increase costs for businesses, making it harder to compete not only with overseas manufacturers, but with businesses in other states," said Stan Hogrebe of Haake Manufacturing.

Haake Manufacturing prides itself on continuous innovation and rewarding its employees with bonuses and a positive workplace culture. Recent investments include the installation of a new laser punch machine, signifying a commitment to staying competitive. However, the company argues that funds spent on adhering to Proposition A could instead foster future business development.

To address these concerns, Haake Manufacturing is advocating for the passage of HB 567. This bill aims to provide clearer guidance for business owners and enable flexible workplace policies tailored to employee needs. Hogrebe emphasized, "We know how to run our own business, and we know how to treat our employees. That is why many of our employees have remained part of the Haake family for many years."

The company urges Missouri residents to engage with their legislators, advocating for HB 567 to maintain the state's competitive business environment.
