In a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, U.S. Senator Josh Hawley introduced John Sauer, nominated by President Donald Trump to be the next U.S. Solicitor General. Hawley praised Sauer, a fellow Missourian and former colleague at the Missouri Attorney General's office.
During the hearing, Hawley also questioned Harmeet Dhillon, Trump's nominee for U.S. Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division. He focused on protecting religious expression after what he described as four years of neglect under the Biden Administration.
Senator Hawley shared his experiences with Sauer, highlighting their collaboration since 2017 when he became Missouri's Attorney General and established an office of the Solicitor General. "I couldn’t think of anybody better—of all the attorneys that I’d had the privilege of working with—than John," said Senator Hawley.
The discussion turned to religious liberties as Hawley addressed Dhillon about alleged attacks on American Catholics and pregnancy care centers during Biden's presidency. "Will you commit to stopping the disparate treatment of Americans on the basis of religious faith that we have seen in the last four years?" he asked.
Dhillon responded affirmatively, emphasizing her commitment to defending people of faith in her role as Assistant Attorney General.
