The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced public hearings for the Improve I-70 project, which will extend from Warrenton to Wentzville. The hearings are scheduled for February 3 in Warrenton and February 6 in Wentzville, both from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This project is part of MoDOT's Statewide Improve I-70 Program and aims to add a third lane of travel in each direction on Interstate 70 between these locations.
The project's total contract cost is $600 million, funded by the Improve I-70 funding and additional General Revenue funds designated by legislation. Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2025 and finish by late 2028.
The open house-style meetings will provide information about design plans, construction phasing, schedules, and other details. Attendees can visit any time during the two-hour window as there will be no formal presentation. Representatives from MoDOT and the contractor team—Emery Sapp & Sons, Clarkson Construction, HNTB, and Bartlett & West—will be available to answer questions.
Written or recorded oral statements can be submitted at the hearing or through the project website starting February 3. Comments must be received by March 6.
Meeting locations include Warrenton High School Commons Area on February 3 and Progress Park Recreation Center in Wentzville on February 6.
Key improvements planned include constructing a third lane on I-70 from Warrenton to I-64 in Wentzville with new concrete pavement; interchange upgrades at I-70/I-64/Route 61; enhancements at Foristell, Wright City, Warrenton interchanges; realignment near a railroad bridge between Wentzville Parkway and Route Z; adding a third lane on eastbound/westbound I-64 between I-70 and Route K; maintaining two lanes open during peak times.
Missouri's FY2024 budget includes $2.8 billion for building a third lane across nearly 200 miles of I-70 statewide from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
Displays at the public hearing will also cover bridge/interchange improvements funded through MoDOT’s Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP), anticipated for award in March with construction set for this year into next.
Special accommodations are available upon request by contacting Project Communications Coordinator Lairyn McGregor before January 27.
