Great Rivers Greenway has announced significant support for the Brickline Greenway project from BJC Health System, Washington University, and Greater St. Louis, Inc. These contributions have pushed the $245 million public-private partnership beyond the halfway-funded mark, aiding future federal funding applications. Greater St. Louis, Inc. has also formed a working group of CEOs to support capital campaign efforts.
The Brickline Greenway is a major public-private initiative led by Great Rivers Greenway. Scheduled for completion in 2030, it will consist of over 12 miles of greenways connecting up to 14 neighborhoods in St. Louis. The network will link Forest Park to the Gateway Arch National Park and Fairground Park to Tower Grove Park.
The STL 2030 Jobs Plan highlights the Brickline Greenway as essential for restoring St. Louis's core and stimulating economic growth. According to Great Rivers Greenway, “More than just a free, accessible trail where people can exercise, commute or explore, the project’s goals include thinking about equitable economic opportunities for everyone to thrive.”
The STL 2030 Jobs Plan emphasizes that accelerating the Brickline Greenway build-out is crucial for neighborhood revitalization and job creation: “It will be vitally important to raise capital for this exceptional project (at least in part through federal infrastructure investments) and seek out opportunities for enhancing the public benefits of the project through local hiring.”
WashU Chancellor Andrew D. Martin expressed enthusiasm: “Brickline Greenway is a transformational project that we are thrilled to invest in because we value a vibrant, connected St. Louis where everyone has opportunities to thrive.” Richard Liekweg, CEO of BJC Health System, stated: “Brickline Greenway opens up a world of options to better the health of our patients, our staff and our community.” Dustin Allison from GSL noted its potential impact on Downtown St. Louis's revitalization.
Susan Trautman from GRG praised the collaboration: “Brickline Greenway is a testament to the power of partnership and we’re so grateful to WashU, BJC, and GSL for their commitment.”
