U.S. District Judge Henry E. Autrey has sentenced James C. Street, a St. Louis County resident, to 63 months in prison for arranging the sale of illegally-possessed firearms while incarcerated. The sentence will run consecutively with pending probation violation cases in both St. Louis and Jefferson counties.

Street, aged 47, pleaded guilty in July to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Despite his status as a convicted felon prohibited from owning firearms, he admitted to possessing three pistols and an AR-style rifle.

The investigation commenced when the St. Louis County Police Department discovered that Street was negotiating the sale of his firearms from jail. This prompted them to contact the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Through an intermediary, Street sold a .357 magnum revolver which was later retrieved by law enforcement officials. Further investigations revealed plans for additional sales by Street. A court-approved search at the intermediary’s residence led to the recovery of the remaining firearms along with ammunition and large capacity magazines.

At that time, Street was serving probation for multiple felony domestic offenses.

The case was investigated by both the ATF and the St. Louis County Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Goeke handling prosecution duties.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities they serve. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a strategy to strengthen PSN based on principles such as fostering community trust and legitimacy, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
