Starting on June 1, Missourians participating in the Chamber Benefit Plan will have access to a new benefit called a Health Payment Account (HPA). Created by Paytient, a Columbia, Missouri-based technology company, HPAs enable plan members to manage and pay for healthcare expenses over time.

This partnership allows members to seek earlier treatment, diagnostic care, and medications essential for chronic condition management before meeting their deductible. According to a 2024 survey of Paytient users, 54% of respondents indicated they would have skipped some or all care without their Paytient card. The card can be used for both medical and pharmacy costs, with each transaction converted into a personalized repayment plan without interest or fees.

Paytient's service will be available to nearly 45,000 Missourians through the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Chamber Benefit Plan. Members will gain access upon their renewal date starting June 1, with additional members gaining access on September 1, 2024, and March 1, 2025. The Chamber Benefit Plan provides health insurance to small- and mid-sized employers through a multiple employer welfare arrangement (MEWA) model. This model allows small businesses to pool resources and share overall claims risk as part of a larger self-funded group.

“We are incredibly proud to partner with Anthem and the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry here in our home state to help more Missourians more easily get care, improve their health and avoid preventable financial harm,” said Brian Whorley, founder and CEO of Paytient. “We thank them for their leadership in recognizing it’s no longer enough to insure against catastrophic care—we must ensure access and an easier way to pay for everyday care whenever members may need it.”

Paytient has maintained high customer satisfaction ratings with a Net Promoter Score (NPS) above 90 and 4.9 stars on Trustpilot. This experience creates value for employers as well; 64% of Paytient user respondents reported feeling more likely to retain their job while 92% expressed greater satisfaction with their health benefits overall.

“We are excited to partner with Paytient to offer this added benefit to nearly 4,000 covered groups,” said Brendan Cossette, plan administrator for the Chamber Benefit Plan. “Members tell us frequently how the Chamber Benefit Plan has stabilized and reduced their insurance costs while offering great coverage for their employees. This valuable partnership will further improve our members’ physical and financial health.”

The Chamber Benefit Plan is offered across Missouri to businesses with two-to-fifty eligible employees and is administered by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Missouri.

“Anthem is proud of our long relationship with the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry,” said Stephanie Vojicic, president of Anthem. “We are committed to innovative solutions that encourage members to access the healthcare they need when they need it. Paytient’s HPA is the next generation of financial tools that can help keep members in better control of their healthcare.”
