Mayor Tishaura O. Jones has signed the "Automated Camera Enforcement Act" into law in St. Louis. The new law, also known as Board Bill 105 (Cohn), aims to enhance traffic safety in the city by implementing automated traffic control systems at critical locations to address traffic violence and hold reckless drivers accountable.

In a video shared on social media, Mayor Jones emphasized the importance of safety for all residents, stating, "Everyone deserves to feel safe when getting around St. Louis." She highlighted the need for improved measures to ensure the well-being of the community.

Moreover, Mayor Jones announced a significant investment of $48 million from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) for the enhancement of major roadways and crash-prone areas over the next two years. This investment is part of the city's efforts to make streets safer for everyone. Mayor Jones acknowledged the progress being made but stressed that each instance of traffic violence underscores the ongoing need for further action, stating, "The City of St. Louis is making great strides to make our streets safer, but every incident of traffic violence is a reminder that more needs to be done."

As the Automated Camera Enforcement Act comes into effect, the implementation of smart technologies will help identify and address instances of reckless driving more effectively. The legislation also establishes guidelines for prosecuting traffic safety violations detected through these systems.

In closing, Mayor Jones called for collective efforts to foster a cultural shift towards safer driving practices, stating, "We can change the laws, but we need your help changing the culture." The mayor's message resonates the city's commitment to improving road safety and creating a secure environment for all residents.
