The St. Louis Cardinals are expected to bring a significant economic boost to the St. Louis metro area during the 2024 season, with projections estimating an impact of more than $310 million. Mayor Tishaura O. Jones expressed excitement about the upcoming season, highlighting the importance of home games in supporting local businesses and the growth of Downtown St. Louis.

According to a report by Greater St. Louis, Inc., the Cardinals project an attendance of 3 million for the season, with over a third of attendees coming from outside the St. Louis metro area. Kurt Weigle, Chief Downtown Officer of Greater St. Louis, Inc., emphasized the positive effects of sports teams like the Cardinals on the energy and growth of Downtown St. Louis.

Brian Hall, Chief Marketing Officer at Explore St. Louis, underscored the role of Cardinals baseball in attracting visitors and boosting tourism in the region. Hall mentioned that the sport not only supports numerous jobs in the hospitality industry but also serves as a source of community pride.

The economic impact analysis conducted by Greater St. Louis, Inc. used the IMPLAN model to quantify the ripple effects of spending associated with Cardinals games throughout the region. The report distinguishes between direct economic impact, such as spending at Busch Stadium during games, and indirect economic impact, which includes business-to-business transactions within the regional supply chain.

Overall, the Cardinals' presence in St. Louis is expected to have a substantial influence on the local economy, with out-of-town visitors contributing significantly to dining, lodging, and shopping expenditures. The upcoming season is anticipated to further strengthen the connection between the team, local businesses, and the community.
