The Missouri Senate has given its approval for the establishment of a State Geospatial Advisory Council, as highlighted in a recent announcement by Greater St. Louis, Inc. The organization expressed its support for the legislation, Senate Bill 1039, which aims to create a Missouri Geospatial Advisory Council. In a statement, Adam Kazda, Vice President of Government Relations for GSL, emphasized the importance of this move for the state's geospatial sector, stating, “St. Louis is our nation’s hub for geospatial technology, and establishing a Geospatial Advisory Council in Missouri would signal the state’s continued partnership in growing the use of geospatial technology throughout the Show-Me State.”
Furthermore, GSL has been actively involved in advancing St. Louis’ geospatial ecosystem through its GeoFutures initiative. The GeoFutures Strategic Roadmap, spearheaded by GSL, aims to enhance the region's geospatial capabilities over the next decade. In response to the Senate's approval, Senator Steve Roberts expressed his optimism about the future of geospatial technology in Missouri, stating, “The formation of this council ensures that St. Louis and all of Missouri rows together and we will continue to be a national leader in a far-reaching, growing, and high-paying industry.”
Senator Roberts highlighted Missouri's prominence in geospatial innovation while acknowledging the importance of collaboration within the region. The legislation is now pending further action in the Missouri House, following a similar version of the bill passing during the previous session.
