SLU Faculty, Student Named St. Louis Magazine 2024 Excellence in Nursing Finalists

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis Magazine recently announced the 2024 Excellence in Nursing Awards finalists. Saint Louis University continues to dominate the educator category with four finalists chosen by a prestigious selection committee.

Interim Dean Kristine L'Ecuyer, Ph.D., expressed her gratitude for the recognition, stating, "I am grateful for an opportunity to support and cheer for the Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing faculty and students." L'Ecuyer also highlighted the pride felt by the institution for the students and faculty being acknowledged for their contributions to the nursing profession through teaching, research, and community engagement.

Elaine Young, D.N.P., assistant professor of nursing, was named a finalist in the Educator category. Young, who teaches Complex Care theory courses, has been recognized for her innovative teaching methods and dedication to both academic and clinical excellence.

Amy Kief, a fourth-year graduate nursing student, was also honored as a finalist in the Educator category. Kief credited her time at SLU for enhancing her teaching skills and knowledge, leading to improvements in student learning outcomes.

Samantha Marquard, D.N.P., associate professor of public health, received her second Excellence in Nursing finalist nomination, this time in the Community/Ambulatory Care category. Marquard's work with refugees, immigrants, and child well-being has been instrumental in her recognition as a leader in the nursing field.

Eve Holzemer, D.N.P., adjunct professor of nursing, was named a finalist in the Women’s Health category. Holzemer's efforts in developing programs for Women Veterans and enhancing patient care have led to gender-specific screening rates exceeding national averages.

These finalists from Saint Louis University represent the dedication and excellence within the nursing community, setting a high standard for the future generation of nurses.
