A Poplar Bluff, Missouri man, Samuel D. Moore, has been sentenced to serve 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to drug-trafficking and firearm related charges. Moore appeared before U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh, Jr. at the federal courthouse in Cape Girardeau for his sentencing hearing.
According to court documents, law enforcement officers found multiple firearms and drug paraphernalia items at Moore's residence in Poplar Bluff last July. A search of Moore's Chevy Tahoe revealed large quantities of various controlled substances, including 30 pounds of marijuana divided into one-pound bags, and a 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a 50-round high-capacity drum magazine. Moore admitted during his guilty plea hearing last November that he intended to sell the marijuana for profit and possessed the firearm for his drug-trafficking activities.
"After serving the 10-year sentence, Moore will be placed on supervised release for three years," stated the court.
Felony state charges for domestic assault are still pending against Moore in the Circuit Court of Butler County, Missouri.
The investigation into this case was conducted by the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jack Koester prosecuted the case.
As in all criminal cases, Moore is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
