A Kansas City, Missouri man has been sentenced to federal prison for illegal firearm possession. David Michael Gager, also known as David Kash, age 31, received a sentence of 71 months without parole from U.S. District Judge Greg Kays.

Gager pleaded guilty on March 7, 2025, to five counts of being a felon in possession of firearms. The charges stem from incidents between April 19 and May 16, 2024. During this time, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) used a confidential informant and an undercover agent to make four controlled firearm purchases from Gager. According to court documents, during these transactions Gager claimed he could obtain machineguns and methamphetamine for future deals. He also said that he bought firearms in Kansas City and transported them to Chicago for resale.

On May 9, 2024, officers with the Kansas City Police Department arrested Gager at a convenience store on Prospect Avenue after executing a warrant. At the scene, police found a 9mm handgun that Gager had discarded in a trashcan when he saw officers approaching.

"This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Trey Alford," according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. "It was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Kansas City, Mo. Police Department."

The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America—a nationwide effort led by the Department of Justice aimed at fighting illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and reducing violent crime through coordinated resources from Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
