Allstate has agreed to fully compensate a policyholder who testified at a recent U.S. Senate subcommittee hearing on insurance industry practices, according to an announcement from Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.). The company will pay Natalia Migal $497,000 plus attorney’s fees to rebuild her Georgia home after it was damaged by a 70-foot oak tree during Hurricane Helene last September. Allstate had initially offered $46,000 for the claim.

“This is a victory. Allstate has finally agreed to pay Ms. Migal’s claim in full. But there are many others like her across the country who the insurance industry continues to scam. I will continue to investigate Allstate and other insurance companies to ensure they do right by their policyholders,” said Senator Hawley.

The payment follows Senator Hawley’s cross examination of an Allstate executive during his Disaster Management subcommittee hearing that highlighted alleged widespread fraud in the insurance sector.

Earlier this year, Senator Hawley began investigating how insurers handle claims after natural disasters. President Donald Trump brought attention to similar issues during his January visit to North Carolina, where he met with victims of Hurricane Helene.

In addition, Senator Hawley has warned top executives at several major insurance firms—including State Farm, Nationwide, Liberty Mutual, Travelers, Allstate, and American Family Insurance—to fulfill their obligations following recent storms in Eastern Missouri as policyholders seek recovery.
