A St. Louis man has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison after being found with three firearms, despite a prior felony conviction that prohibited him from possessing guns.
Derrick Lamar Rodgers, 34, pleaded guilty in May to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. According to court documents, Rodgers was apprehended on May 24, 2024, by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team while he was wanted on multiple warrants. During his arrest, officers discovered a 9mm handgun and plastic baggies containing synthetic cannabinoid in his cross-body satchel. Authorities also recovered a shotgun and a stolen Hi-Point 9mm handgun.
Rodgers is legally barred from owning or possessing firearms due to his status as a convicted felon.
During Wednesday's sentencing hearing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Lake told the court that Rodgers has an “atrocious” criminal history filled with violent acts, particularly against women.
Judge Henry E. Autrey ordered that Rodgers’ sentence run concurrently with pending cases in St. Louis Circuit Court as part of an agreement between both parties.
The case was investigated by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Lake.
