A Kansas City man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to child pornography. Cody Tyler Titus, 24, of Kansas City, Missouri, is accused of attempting to access with intent to view child pornography over the internet between November 2, 2022, and November 19, 2023. Titus was arrested and made his initial court appearance.

The indictment specifies that these are accusations and not evidence of guilt. Evidence must be presented at trial for a jury to determine guilt or innocence.

If convicted under federal statutes for attempted access with intent to view child pornography, Titus could face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The final sentence will be determined by the court after considering advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled following a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Teresa A. Moore is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

This prosecution falls under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started in May 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program brings together federal, state, and local resources to prosecute offenders and rescue victims. More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at www.usdoj.gov/psc.
