Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has initiated legal action against the national Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The lawsuit, filed under the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act, accuses Planned Parenthood of misleading women about the risks associated with chemical abortions to reduce costs and increase revenue.

Bailey stated, "The national Planned Parenthood organization is actively endangering the lives of women and girls across the country by spreading lies and disinformation about the powerful chemical abortion drug." He highlighted that over 4.5 percent of women who use this drug require emergency medical attention, contrasting Planned Parenthood's comparison of it to Tylenol as a violation of Missouri law.

The suit claims that Planned Parenthood's advertising misleads women nationwide, including those in Missouri. It alleges that their website inaccurately describes mifepristone as "safer than many other medicines like penicillin, Tylenol, and Viagra," despite FDA warnings and studies indicating serious adverse events in more than 4.5 percent of cases.

The petition seeks over $1.8 million in civil penalties for daily violations of state law, damages or restitution up to $1,000 for each Missouri woman who received abortion pills from Planned Parenthood in the past five years, reimbursement for Medicaid and taxpayer-funded emergency care due to complications from abortion pills, and a court order preventing further promotion of these claims in Missouri.

Attorney General Bailey concluded by stating: “The lies must stop. We’re holding the national Planned Parenthood entity accountable for the lies it tells women in Missouri and across the nation.”
