The Saint Louis Science Center is launching a new series of after-hours events aimed at adults, starting with "Science Center Up Late: Experience Sound" on July 19. These events are designed for guests aged 21 and over, who will need to present valid identification for entry.

Neville Crenshaw, the Science Center's Associate Director of Special Projects, stated, “At the Saint Louis Science Center, we believe that science and STEM opportunities are for everyone.” He added that these programs provide adults with unique experiences and an in-depth exploration of STEM themes through various hands-on activities across the center's galleries.

The first event will focus on the science and technology of sound as experienced through music, movies, nature, and more. Highlights include transforming the McDonnell Planetarium into an audio lounge inspired by Japanese Jazz Kissa, atmospheric music in the OMNIMAX Theater featuring artist Alyssa Miserendino, and a "Quantum Disco" under the Tyrannosaurus rex exhibit. Guests can also meet local STEM experts during "Two Scientists Walk into a Bar," explore foley art in "The Sounds of Sci-Fi," and participate in hands-on demonstrations related to sound.

Additional features include games like “Beep Ball” in partnership with Mindseye Radio and pitch recognition tests with Washington University Neuroscience Outreach. The event will also offer themed drinks such as “Stempunk Lager” from Steampunk Brew Works.

Tickets are priced at $20 or $15 for Science Center members. They can be purchased online at slsc.org/up-late or by calling 314-289-4400. Tickets will also be available at the door on July 19, with parking included.

Future events in this series are planned up to four times a year with varying themes but similar activities. The next event is scheduled for October 25.

The Saint Louis Science Center provides free admission to all guests from Thursday through Monday. More information can be found at slsc.org or by calling 314-289-4400.
