St. Louis launches recovery programs after tornado damage

The City of St. Louis has initiated several recovery programs following the recent tornado, aiming to provide urgent repair services and protect homeowners from fraud. The initiatives include an Emergency Stabilization Program for immediate weatherization, an Electricity Reconnection Program offering free electrical assessments and repairs up to $4,000 per household, Ask An Architect for free consultations with licensed architects, and a Contractor Registry to ensure safe recovery work.

Residents needing assistance can contact 311 or submit requests online.

The Urban League will host a free meal giveaway event on July 5 at their headquarters on North Kingshighway. Meals will be provided by popular local food trucks from noon to 3 p.m.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has opened additional disaster assistance centers across various locations in St. Louis to support those affected by the May 16 tornado. These centers are available six days a week with varying hours. FEMA encourages residents to apply for assistance before visiting the centers.

The American Red Cross is also providing financial aid for those impacted by the tornado, with applications open until July 3rd. Individuals who have already started applications can continue their cases until July 11th.

Materials donations such as building supplies and non-perishable food items are being accepted at a designated drop-off location on South Kingshighway near Home Depot between 8 a.m. and noon.

InvestSTL has launched the Northside Resilience Fund aimed at providing direct cash assistance to families displaced by the tornado in North St. Louis.

Volunteers are needed, and opportunities can be found through United Way of Greater St. Louis and Action St. Louis/The People’s Response online platforms.

For those interested in donating funds, the City of St. Louis Tornado Response Fund has been established in collaboration with the St. Louis Community Foundation to aid both immediate relief efforts and long-term rebuilding projects.

Businesses impacted by the storm can complete an assessment form through the St. Louis Development Corporation for further assistance evaluation.

Additionally, contributions can be made to United Way of Greater St. Louis Severe Storm/Tornado Relief Fund supporting regional residents affected by recent storms alongside nonprofit disaster response efforts.
