A Missouri Lottery player experienced an unexpected windfall during a work break when she and her coworker stopped at On the Run, located at 3225 Hampton Ave. in St. Louis, to purchase lottery tickets.

“We grabbed the tickets and went to sit in the car to scratch them,” the winner recounted. “I was scratching, and it felt like I went to sleep almost and when I woke up I won $50,000!”

Initially skeptical, her coworker took a closer look at the ticket.

“She was like, ‘You’re so hilarious. Give me the ticket!’” the winner said. “She was just laughing!”

The laughter soon turned into disbelief as her coworker realized that the win was genuine.

“I was like, ‘Keep laughing!’” the winner joked. “We were hopping around!”

The "Crossword Plus" game has awarded over $7.2 million in prizes thus far, with more than $8.4 million still available for claim. There are five remaining top prizes of $50,000 yet to be claimed.

In fiscal year 2024, players who bought tickets in St. Louis City won over $45 million in total Missouri Lottery prizes. Retailers earned more than $4.4 million through commissions and bonuses, while education programs within the county benefited from over $36.9 million in appropriated Lottery proceeds.
