Governor Mike Kehoe has directed that U.S. and Missouri flags be flown at half-staff at all government buildings in Missouri to honor former U.S. Vice President Richard "Dick" Cheney. The order, which follows federal flag code guidelines, will remain in effect from today until the date of Cheney’s interment, which has not yet been announced.
"Vice President Cheney devoted his life to serving our nation with honor and distinction," Governor Kehoe said. "Throughout his decades of public service, he exemplified unwavering commitment to the United States' security and prosperity. In recognition of his long and distinguished career, we honor his life of service by lowering the flags across Missouri."
Cheney's public service career lasted more than forty years. He held positions including White House Chief of Staff under President Gerald Ford, U.S. Representative for Wyoming, Secretary of Defense under President George H.W. Bush, and Vice President from 2001 to 2009 during the administration of President George W. Bush.
