A concerted effort is underway to position St. Louis as a major player in the field of neuroscience research by securing a $160 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). Spearheaded by BioSTL, an innovation hub, and the Neuro360 coalition, the proposal aims to enhance regional innovation in neuroscience.
"This competition is not institution against institution; it's about regions versus regions," stated Donn Rubin, President and CEO of BioSTL. "It's about our ecosystem (and uniting) as a community. So, having you all together here, and having this vast representation of partners is really important, and it's an important message that we can send to the NSF."
The region previously garnered a $25 million federal Build Back Better Regional Challenge grant in 2022 through a collective effort across the St. Louis metro area. The current initiative mirrors that approach, suggesting that teamwork can lead to significant advancements.
"This effort to win the NSF grant replicates that collaborative success. When we all work together, we all move farther," a source commented.
