FOIA Request to Missouri Secretary of State - Elections Department Regarding Spring Elections Candidates for Office on February 6, 2025.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Show-Me State Times have requested specific records under the Missouri Sunshine Law § 610.023 et seq., preferably in electronic format.
The records requested include a list of all candidates running for the upcoming election. We have asked for detailed information about each candidate such as their first, middle, and last names, the office they are running for, the jurisdiction of the office, and their party affiliation.
In addition to this, we have also requested all contact information for each candidate which includes their address, phone number, and email address.
Our commitment as a media organization is to gather and report news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await response from the Missouri Secretary of State - Elections Department regarding our request.
