U.S. District Judge Matthew T. Schelp on Thursday sentenced Davion Dixon, a felon from Ferguson, Missouri, to 86 months in prison for offenses involving fentanyl, methamphetamine, and firearms.

Dixon was involved in an incident on October 31, 2022, when he and others were in a stolen BMW that crashed in Richmond Heights, Missouri after a shooting. He discarded an AR-style pistol while fleeing the crash scene but was subsequently arrested in a nearby backyard.

On March 23, 2023, Dixon was arrested again by the St. Louis County Police Department on a warrant from the St. Louis County Circuit Court. Officers observed him with an AR-style pistol before his arrest and later found the weapon inside his home along with a 60-round magazine and an “auto sear” device that could convert the gun to fully automatic if installed. Under federal law, such a device is classified as a machine gun even if not attached to a firearm. Additionally, officers discovered 16.67 grams of methamphetamine, 56 capsules containing fentanyl, and 2.078 grams of cocaine base at his residence.

In May, Dixon pleaded guilty to five felonies: possession with intent to distribute fentanyl; possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine; being a felon in possession of a machine gun; and two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The case was investigated by the St. Louis County Police Department, the Richmond Heights Police Department, and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Szczucinski prosecuted the case.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department of Justice launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy for PSN on May 26, 2021, emphasizing trust-building within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
