The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed its appreciation to the Senate for passing SB 748, a bill that plays a crucial role in maintaining the economic health of the state by ensuring the continued operation of its hospitals. The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Lincoln Hough (R-Springfield), was approved by the Senate on Thursday with a vote of 31-2.
SB 748 serves to renew the Federal Reimbursement Allowance program, also known as FRA. This program is a vital funding source for essential health care services throughout Missouri. For over three decades, hospitals, nursing homes, and pharmacies in Missouri have been paying this provider tax to support the state's Medicaid program, MO HealthNet. This public-private partnership with the state government generates approximately $4 billion annually in matching federal funds.
The new legislation will extend the FRA program until 2029. The Missouri Chamber has expressed its support for this bill, emphasizing its importance to both the state budget and the overall health of Missourians.
Kara Corches, vice president of governmental affairs for the Missouri Chamber stated, “At the end of the day, employees want to live and work in places where they have access to quality health care and hospitals.” She further praised Sen. Lincoln Hough for his leadership on this issue and urged swift action from the House in passing this legislation for "the benefit of Missouri workers, employers and communities.”
SB 748 is now set to be considered by the House.
