Congressman Sam Graves reiterated his stance on the latest COVID-19 bailout bill by releasing a statement after voting against it.

Graves opposed the bill which was spearheaded by President Joe Biden, claiming that it will do nothing to help the current predicament that the whole nation is in. Graves wrote, “We can’t afford to mortgage our children’s future to pay for this wasteful bailout bill that’s loaded with pork.”

Graves and other Republicans are criticizing the relief bill for being too expensive. He says that the bailout bill will be hard to recoup and might take years for the nation to recover from financially. What’s worse is that the bill doesn’t have any clear plan on how to reopen the country for business, he said.

Graves says that the bill fails to reopen businesses, which is what Congress should be aiming for if it wants the U.S. economy to get back on its feet. Other Republicans are saying the same thing and they claim that the bill’s $15 minimum wage hike will cripple small businesses at a time when most companies are forced to trim their budgets.

Graves also said that previous COVID-19 bills still had $1 trillion that have not been touched. He said that before the Democrats ask for another trillion dollars it would be prudent to use up the first trillion.
