House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure ranking member Rep. Sam Graves (R-MO) urged for a collaborative effort across the aisle to tackle the country’s infrastructure woes.
"Partnerships—not partisanships," Graves tweeted, are the key to fixing America's infrastructure problems. "There’s a lot of work to be done — work that we can and will get done if we work together and bypass the majority’s usual 'my way or the highway' approach," the representative from Missouri's 6th congressional district added.
According to Graves’ Washington Post Op-Ed, the departure from collaborative work between Democrats and Republicans that provided Americans with COVID-19 relief, may hinder future infrastructure projects.
He added that this cause of concern comes on the heels of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's instructions to all House committees to maintain a one-sided process for the passage of the COVID-19 relief package.
The result is a $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan that was passed by the House early Saturday morning. However, no Republican voted for the bill. “Democrats are so embarrassed by all the non-COVID waste in this bill that they are jamming it through in the dead of night,” said House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy.
If this trend continues, Graves and other GOP politicians fear that further partisanship will hinder infrastructure progress.
