Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (R-MO) strongly objected to the Equality Act sponsored by Rep. David N. Cicilline (D-RI).
Hartzler underlined how this bill will have a deep impact on the children and parents.
“Under this bill children’s privacy will be violated when locker rooms, restrooms, and homeless shelters will no longer be single-sex,” she said. “Under this bill, parents may face custody battle from making healthy, wholesome choices for their children’s health”
In a statement she released, Hartzler added that “this legislation is an affront on women’s rights and forces individuals to recognize biological males as females, decimating decades of women’s advancements and civil rights.”
The Equality Act would expand the definition of public accommodations to “include places or establishments that provide (1) exhibitions, recreation, exercise, amusement, gatherings, or displays; (2) goods, services, or programs; and (3) transportation services.” As it would question why a person would be “denied access to a shared facility, including a restroom, a locker room, and a dressing room, that is in accordance with the individual's gender identity.”
“Should this bill become law, the wellbeing of our children, the role of parents, the privacy and safety of vulnerable women, the competitive edge of female athletes, the livelihoods of charities and businesses, and the integrity of our healthcare system will all be jeopardized,” Hartzler stated.
The House passed the bill with a 224-206.
