University of Missouri-St. Louis senior Wilma Zanderau was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Golf Player of the Week, according to an announcement on Apr. 15. This is her first time receiving the honor this season and marks the eighth time in her career she has earned this recognition.

Zanderau’s award comes after a strong performance at the UMSL Spring Invitational held from April 12 to April 13, where she helped her team secure second place out of sixteen teams. The Tritons finished ahead of nationally ranked opponents, including No. 11 North Georgia and No. 19 Indianapolis.

Individually, Zanderau placed third in a field of ninety-one golfers and was named to the All-Tournament Team. She recorded scores of 74, 75, and a tournament-low round of 65 for a total score of one-over-par (214). Zanderau led all players in par-4 scoring average at 4.03, tied for second in par-5 scoring average at 4.44, and finished third with twelve birdies over three rounds.

The recognition adds to Zanderau’s list of previous weekly awards from March and October last year as well as earlier seasons. The most recent Triton before her to earn Player of the Week honors was Mayan Covarrubias on April 1.

The Tritons will next compete at the GLVC Women’s Golf Championship tournament starting Friday morning at Rock Hollow Golf Club in Peru, Indiana.
