University of Missouri-St. Louis senior pitcher Eli Cartwright was named the final Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, according to a May 4 announcement from the league office. This is Cartwright’s second time receiving this honor during the season and marks the third consecutive week a Triton has earned the award.
The recognition highlights Cartwright’s recent performance, where he pitched seven shutout innings in a game against Maryville, allowing only two hits and two walks while recording ten strikeouts. His efforts contributed to UMSL’s wins over Maryville with scores of 14-0, 4-0, and 4-3 during games played from April 30 to May 2.
Cartwright, who majors in sport management and hails from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, posted an average of nearly thirteen strikeouts per nine innings in his standout outing. He previously won Pitcher of the Week honors on March 30 this year. The most recent recipient before him was Brandon Johnson on April 27.
The Tritons are scheduled to play their first contest in the GLVC Tournament this Thursday at Mountain Dew Park in Marion, Illinois. Their opponent will be either UIndy, Maryville or Quincy, with game time set for 2:30 p.m.
Cartwright’s achievement reflects continued strong performances by UMSL pitchers as they head into postseason play.
