UMSL athletics announces weekly schedule and highlights recent team achievements

The University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL) released its athletics calendar for the week of April 20-26, detailing upcoming games and recognizing notable performances from its teams.

The schedule includes home and away competitions in softball, baseball, golf, and tennis. Highlights feature softball hosting Central Missouri on Tuesday at the UMSL Softball Field, men’s golf competing in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Championships in Peru, Indiana starting Wednesday, and baseball facing Lindenwood in St. Charles on Wednesday before a series against Lincoln later in the week.

In recent action, UMSL women’s golf secured its first conference title by defeating UIndy 3-2 during the GLVC medal/match play final. Hillary Currier and Wilma Zanderau were named to the All-GLVC First Team with Zanderau also earning GLVC Women’s Golf Player of the Year honors. The baseball team went 3-1 against UIndy last weekend; Mitch Bonczkowski led at bat with a .428 average including a home run and four runs batted in while Dustin Hagens pitched 6.2 innings of scoreless relief work for two wins.

The Tritons’ softball team ended a six-game losing streak versus Lewis by sweeping their doubleheader Saturday. Gracie Philpot recorded three hits out of four at-bats with one home run and five RBIs while Jayla Plotz earned her first collegiate win as pitcher during game two.

In tennis action, women’s tennis clinched a spot in the GLVC tournament after sweeping Maryville on Saturday with strong performances from Hannah Tse, Aleksandra Lopez, Millie Wileman, Morgan Lint, and Anna Favaron—all going undefeated in their matches. The men’s tennis team fell to Maryville 5-2 but saw individual victories from Tommy Griese and Daniel Berdecio.

Mizzou baseball game against Vanderbilt suspended tied 7-7 in ninth inning

Friday night’s baseball game between Mizzou and Vanderbilt was suspended due to weather while tied late in extra innings. The Tigers rallied from behind but will have to wait until Saturday afternoon for resolution.
