Tina Chen, M.D., associate dean of simulation and clinical skills at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, has been recognized as one of the St. Louis Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 for 2024. Her focus is on creating effective educational programs for future clinicians in a supportive learning environment.

“These roles have allowed me broad experience in designing and implementing high-yield simulation curriculum for clinicians at various stages of training, from the first day of medical school to seasoned faculty,” said Chen.

In addition to her role at SLU, Chen works as a physician at the Chinese Clinic. This non-profit clinic is a bilingual and interdisciplinary collaboration involving students from SLU, Washington University, and Southern Illinois University’s pharmacy program. The clinic provides health care services such as primary health screenings, physical exams, and prescription services to uninsured and under-insured Chinese immigrants in the St. Louis area.

Chen was born in Houston, Texas, and spent two years living in Taiwan during her grade school years. She earned her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine and completed her residency at UConn. She further specialized with a fellowship in medical simulation at Hartford Hospital’s Center of Education, Simulation, and Innovation.

During her tenure at SLU, Chen has received several awards including the Father James McKelvey Tobin Award in 2023, the Golden Apple Clinical Teaching Award in 2022, the Best Teaching Award from the emergency medicine residency program, and the Caring Physician Award in 2018.
