Timothy J. Tegeler, a longtime supporter of Saint Louis University, died on March 15 at the age of 84, according to a March 19 announcement from the university.
Tegeler’s contributions to Saint Louis University spanned more than four decades and included service as a member of the president’s council and support for academic programs, faculty research, and student initiatives. His family’s legacy is visible in Tegeler Hall, named after his father Jerome F. Tegeler, who also served on the university’s board of trustees.
Noelle E. Fearn, Ph.D., dean of SLU’s School of Social Work, said: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of a devoted friend and philanthropic partner whose generosity helped shape our school in lasting ways. Through the Tegeler Foundation’s support of our building, named in honor of his father, and through Tim’s ongoing investment in our academic programs, faculty research and student support, he deepened a family legacy that will endure in both place and purpose here in the School of Social Work at Saint Louis University.”
Donald M. Linhorst, Ph.D., professor emeritus in the School of Social Work, also recognized Tegeler’s impact: “His contributions were significant in assuring that Tegeler Hall is maintained as a modern, well-equipped, state-of-the art building. He also provided funding for the School’s Doerr Center for Social Justice Education and Research and generously gave of his time on School committees.” Linhorst added: “Tim was a humble, gracious man. I very much admired and respected him, and I will miss our many wide-ranging conversations. His legacy with the School of Social Work will be enduring.”
Tegeler attended schools in St. Louis before graduating from the University of Arizona in 1964. After serving with the Missouri Air National Guard and working at Dempsey-Tegeler & Co., he joined Stifel Nicolaus & Co., later becoming CEO and chairman at Siboney Corporation where he led its educational software subsidiary until retiring in 2009.

Tegeler is survived by his wife Nancy (Walther), daughter Tiffany Roberts and her son Zachary Sexton; stepson Bill Mixon (with Sabrina) and their daughter Emily.
