The Victory Project announced on Apr. 28 that Lia Olson, an eight-year-old leukemia survivor from Omaha, Nebraska, will be recognized as the Gameday Honoree on May 2.
The recognition highlights Lia’s journey through high-risk leukemia and her recovery process. Her story aims to inspire others facing similar health challenges.
According to The Victory Project, Lia was diagnosed with leukemia in October 2019 after initially being treated for what was thought to be an ear infection. After a difficult start to treatment, she reached remission on New Year’s Eve of the same year. With support from her family and doctors—including a special immunotherapy treatment from St. Jude—she completed two and a half years of chemotherapy.
Lia is now off treatment and described as thriving, enjoying activities such as playing soccer, swimming, going down slides, and caring for her baby dolls. She also has favorite foods like macaroni and cheese and chocolate.
