The U.S. Senate has passed the One Big Beautiful Bill, with Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) voting in support and highlighting several provisions aimed at supporting families and individuals with disabilities.
“I proudly voted to move forward with President Trump’s America First agenda today. The One Big Beautiful Bill will prevent the largest tax hike in American history, secure our border, fund deportations, create American jobs, and keep our country safe. This is a win for families across Missouri, and I look forward to continuing to work with President Trump to usher in America’s Golden Age,” said Senator Eric Schmitt.
The legislation includes tax cuts projected to increase take-home pay for Missouri families by amounts ranging from $6,900 to $11,600. Among its measures are several initiatives introduced by Senator Schmitt. The ENABLE Act enhances ABLE (529a) accounts—tax-advantaged savings plans for people with disabilities—by permanently extending key provisions and increasing the saver’s credit.
Another provision authored by Schmitt is the Helping Communities with Better Support Act, which aims to expand home and community-based services for those with disabilities. This measure is intended to reduce multi-year waiting lists and provide access to necessary care through these services.
The bill also raises the cap on 529 education savings plans from $10,000 to $20,000, allowing parents greater flexibility in investing in their children’s primary and secondary education while expanding eligible expenditures.
Additionally, the Educational Choice for Children Act creates a charitable donation incentive for individuals and businesses that fund scholarship awards covering K-12 public and private education expenses. Another effort by Schmitt included in the bill makes permanent the 20% pass-through deduction for small businesses in Missouri.
